59 PM CentralJob Summary The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, maintains, and trains others on the daily support of the Sheriff's secure network and telecommunications infrastructure.
This includes but not limited to local area network (LAN) / wide area network (WAN) equipment, routers, switches, virtual private networks (VPNs), firewalls, voice over internet protocol (VoIP), Wi-Fi, servers, applications, antivirus, network security, cyber security, and cellular networks.
This position will be located on-site within our Sheriff's Office at the Government Center in Elk River, MN.
Our regular business hours are Monday-Friday 8:
00am -4:
30pm, though the IT department provides staff with flexibility in effort to strive for a desired work/life balance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manges all Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) equipment, switches (100+), routers, wireless controllers/access points.
This includes design, configurations, new hardware, upgrades, migrations, troubleshooting etc.
for the County, Sheriff & Jail while adhering to Criminal Justice Network requirements.
Manages all firewalls, security applications, virtual private networks (VPNs).
This includes design, configurations, new hardware, upgrades, migrations, troubleshooting etc.
for the County, Sheriff, Jail & contracted agencies while adhering to Criminal Justice Network requirements.
Manages all video networks for all facilities including the Government Center, Sheriff, Jail, and remote sites.
Maintains servers/applications with service patches, operating system updates, software patches and hardware replacements.
Daily and ongoing focus towards reviewing and improving our security posture with antivirus, firewalls, wireless and network security fronts.
Maintain Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems which includes Cisco UC infrastructure and supporting hardware/software, and secondary cloud based systems for contracted agencies.
Acts as a point of escalation and supports IT and end user requests for all information technologies.
Participate in an on-call rotation to support systems 24/7.
Trace, document, patch, test fiber, copper, analog cabling infrastructure.
Assist with internal and external penetration testing on an annual or as needed basis, analyze results and make changes as needed.
Serve as a back up to other IT staff as needed.
Analyze cross-functional processes and procedures and identify opportunities for improvements.
Initiates and creates IT Network Team documentation and knowledge base.
Participate in weekly team meetings to present project statuses, assist team and discuss security topics.
Provides training and documentation on new network systems/ technology for both users and information technology staff.
Minimum Qualifications An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for this position.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Network Security or related field; ANDThree years work experience in network design and administration.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered such as:
Two-Year's Post-Secondary Education and eight years of work experience in network design and administration.
A valid Driver's License is required.
Ability to obtain the following certification and trainings upon hire:
CJIS Security Awareness Level 4 Certificate Cisco Switches/Routers Cisco/CheckPoint Firewalls Cisco Wireless Cisco Unified Communications VMWare Windows/Linux OS Supplemental Information Must pass fingerprinting and criminal background check prior to hire.
Work EnvironmentThe working environment is primary located within the office space of the Government Center.
Intermittent work is required within the IS Data Centers.
While working within the Data Centers the employee will experience temperature and noise extremes.
Other workspaces include Sheriff's Office substations, within patrol and transport vehicles, and within the Sherburne County Jail.
